Turnberry GC Ailsa Course: Expensive - however worth playing one of the best Open courses!!!

Area: Scotland Golf Courses

Comment: Golf Course Review of the Ailsa Golf Course at the Turnberry Resort. We arrived 1 hour before play. Excellent practice facilities. Very windy conditions. Played the Ailsa course. Very challenging, long links course, made all the more difficult by the strong winds. Thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the round - particularly the coastal holes around the lighthouse. Expensive - however worth playing one of the best Open courses!!!

St Annes Old Links Golf Course: Game on the 2012 Open Championship course

Area: North West Golf Courses

Comment: Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Course Review. We stayed in Dormey House - very comfortable - dined in clubhouse. Super, friendly service - fine food. Breakfast in clubhouse, then a game on the 2012 Open Championship course.More than 200 deep revetted bunkers make the course extremely difficult.Overall, the course is in superb condition. Made to feel welcome by all staff. Not cheap- but very good value for what you get. Will certainly travel back!!

Wokefield Park Golf Course: Not Recommended

Area: South East Golf Courses

Comment: The shame of it is this is actually a nice golf course, not great, but very nice. The problem is the course is not marshalled and there is no minimum handicap requirement, as a result the course was full of hackers and I've never experienced slow play like it. We had a group of six playing on a Friday & Saturday, Fridays round took 5 hours, and half of us packed up after 3 hours and 9 holes on Saturday, and the remainder stuck it out for a 6 hour round. We called in twice, the first time after a 4 ball took 30 mins to play the 4th, and the Pro said he would send out the Marshall , no such person appeared. It transpired there was no Marshall. Even the catering lad in the half way hut said he could see how slow it was and he called the pro shop and suggested they "put somebody in a buggy to go out and sort the problem". It seemed they were just happy to take the money and let anybody out there to play, and speaking of money, the beer in the golf bar was just short of a fiver a pint. The whole place seemed devoid of staff, there was only one waitress serving breakfast for about 100 people. One other issue was our bedroom was in a block 10 mins walk from the main building, ok if it's fine, but if it was raining you would have to drive over for breakfast or whatever.

Stony Holme Golf Club: Fantastic

Area: North West Golf Courses

Comment: Golf Course Review of Stony Holme Golf Club For me, this is one of the best municipal courses in the country. Fantastic value for money, picturesque, well maintained and a good challenge for all levels of golfer. Very underrated because of it's location in the country... it seems many golfers go straight from the midlands to Scotland without stopping off in the North West! Mistake!

Walmersley Golf Club: rob

Area: North West Golf Courses

Comment: Recently played walmersley and the views are just amazing. The course was in good condition for the year and cant wait to go back in the spring/summer.A good test of golf and a great moorland course for all levels of golf. Friendly welcome when i arrived. I would recommend this course as there was no winter greens and quite dry.

Chiddingfold Golf Club: A GREAT COURSE AWAKING LIKE A PHEONIX RISING FROM THE ASHES

Area: South East Golf Courses

Comment: For my Golf Course Review I have just started playing this wonderful game and this is by far my favourite course near to where I live. It is now in the hands of Cowdray Park Golf Course and things are improving greatly since they took over. When you arrive there is ample parking. The log cabin clubhouse which replaces the old clubhouse is welcoming. Take time to look at the album of old pics showing the state of the course when the new regime came in and look at the pics of the course which show what improvements have been made. Now make your way, past the putting green to the 1st tee. A challenging par 4 awaits you. The fairways are in briliant shape for the time of year. The greens are running very well and true. The rough is fair and is well managed by the new team. For me it's a lovely course which challenges me at my stage and offers a good challenge for all golfers. A highlight for me is the 16th which starts at the top of a hill and meanders down to a green which is blind from view as its around 40 foot below in a valley. It makes me want to play it again and again. It is great value for money, and I urge you to visit especially when the sunny warmer weather comes. I have now joined as a gold card member which represents brilliant value at £250, to play Chiddingfold and Cowdray for half price green fees, and also special deals all year. Well done and hats off to you Cowdray for saving this special course.
